Silverstoolers Global Tech Leader Career Mentor Session C2: From Aston to EA
The Silverstoolers Global Tech Leader Career Mentor Session C2 was a standout moment in the Silverstoolers Student-Led Data Science & AI Program. Held virtually, this session delivered a surprise that left students inspired and energized.
Dr. Lyn Ametewee, PhD MA LLM MBA, Principal & CEO Founder of Silverstool and President of the Silverstoolers Program, opened the session with a twist: she introduced a surprise guest — a world-class mentor from the tech industry.
That mentor was Martin Wischhusen, Vice President of Game Development and Infrastructure Services at Electronic Arts (EA), USA — the global powerhouse behind FIFA, The Sims, and other gaming giants. Martin shared his journey from studying data science at Aston University (UK) to rising through the ranks at one of the top gaming companies in the USA.
For students from The Noble College@GlobalTell (Nigeria), Hilltop Schools (Liberia), and the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (Ghana) — many of whom are just beginning to explore coding and data — this session opened new doors of possibility. Martin spoke candidly about the importance of adaptability, the power of networking, and how data science touches every aspect of modern gaming, from game design and development to performance optimization and player experience.
The workshop and Q&A were co-facilitated by Henrietta Akua Odagwe, a Silverstoolers Student Leader from The Noble College@GlobalTell, Nigeria, and Dr. Lyn Ametewee. Together, they guided students through questions about career pathways, skill development, and mindset. Students asked thoughtful, bold questions about education choices, tech internships, and global mobility.
“On having a Global Tech Leader Career Mentor session with Mr. Martin, VP, Electronic Arts, as part of my Silverstoolers Student-Led Data Science Program, I learnt a lot about networking and being able to connect with one another. Also, he told us about his journey in life and how he started his programming, and my takeaway was to always follow your conscience — because it might be your dream.”
— Henrietta Akua Odagwe, 16 years old, Silverstoolers Student Leader, The Noble College@GlobalTell, Nigeria
The energy in the virtual room was electric. More than just a mentoring session, this was a bridge — connecting young African learners with leaders shaping the future of global tech.
The session closed with gratitude, curiosity, and a renewed sense of direction for the Silverstoolers community.
